Grassroots Training's Core Beliefs about Suicide and Suicide Prevention

suicide community
Suicide is a community health problem.
suicide complex
Thoughts of suicide are understandable, complex and personal.
suicide prevention
Suicide can be prevented.
suicide help
Help-seeking is encouraged by open, direct and honest talk about suicide.
suicide intervention
Intervention skills are known and can be learned.
suicide intervention training
Large numbers of people can be taught intervention skills.

Grassroots Training has four directors: Chris Brown, Miranda Frost, Suzie Marriott, and Jenny Pickup.

When the four of us, as experienced Mental Health professionals and trainers, first took ASIST in 2004 we were extremely impressed. The suicide intervention model that we learned was simple, robust and intelligent.

ASIST helped us in our mental health work. It also helped in our personal lives in situations with people who had thoughts of suicide. Demand for our training increased and we started Grassroots Training (formerly ASIST Communities) in 2006.

Grassroots Training is a Community Interest Company, incorporated in February 2006. We decided to form a CIC (Community Interest Company) to reflect our socially rooted aims and objectives.

We use any profit for the benefit of our community through providing subsidised training places, sharing our expertise with others and involvement in community development. The company's activities are monitored by the CIC Regulator.
